Working Principle & Failure Prevention

Maximizing the lifespan of the 9YK-870 requires understanding its simple yet effective mechanics:

• Gathering & Feeding: The spring-tooth pickup lifts the swath directly into the roller chamber. Prevention: Maintain a steady ground speed (2-5 km/h) and ensure the PTO is engaged at 540 RPM before entering the windrow to prevent the pickup from choking.
• Chamber Rolling: The internal rollers tumble the forage, building core density. Prevention: Regularly grease the roller bearings. A dry bearing will overheat, potentially seizing the roller and snapping the main drive chain.
• Rope Tying & Ejection: Once the bale reaches the set diameter, the twine arm drops, wrapping the bale before the tailgate opens. Prevention: Verify the twine tensioner daily. Loose tension causes slipped knots, while excessive tension causes the twine to snap mid-wrap.
